Sr. DevOps Engineer

Overview

Dovetail Software is hiring a senior devops engineer to work on our HR Case Management SaaS app. We’re looking for someone who has a strong background in network and systems operations, scripting, and automation.  We’ve built our app on AWS and we need someone who can help us improve it and keep building it right. We also have need of someone to head our system security operations and who can help support our sales team with RFP questionnaires and live calls with customer security teams about our apps, security, and operations practices.  You’ll be working on a small team that develops applications for large businesses using some of the latest technology. You will work directly with the rest of the ops team and the developers in building the product and our infrastructure to make the best use of the AWS infrastructure to scale and be reliable.

• Continuous deployment
• Git/Github for SCM
• Ruby
• Amazon Web Services
• Logstash/Kibana/Elasticsearch
• Graphite/Statsd
• Octopus Deploy
• Windows and Linux on the servers
• Mac and Windows on the workstations 

Our product software development practices and technologies include:

• Test-driven development
• Continuous integration
• Git and Github (for SCM and issue tracking)
• Huboard (Kanban on Github issues)
• Frequent deployments (but we are working towards a goal to get to Continuous Deployment, can you help us get there?)
• HTML, CSS, Javascript
• React
• Ruby
• Amazon Web Services (EC2, CloudSearch, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, Aurora etc)
• FUBU MVC, C# 4, .NET 4
• SQL Server, but moving to AWS Aurora (MySQL)

Some things we have in mind for you to be doing:

• Assist with the day-to-day operations of the production and demo systems in AWS
• Automating the validation of customer-uploaded CSV files
• Writing tools to support and empower our implementation and support teams
• Work on a pipeline for denormalized reporting data, and help define the optimal reporting schema for our customers
• Support the dev team’s needs for testing environments and infrastructure (i.e, spin up a linux box with locust.io, and a beanstalk cluster with a new build of our web apps to load test that new build)
• Assist the sales team answer potential customers questions about our security practices and operating environments
• Participate in answering customer security questionnaires and security-related questions on RFPs
• Participate and/or lead phone calls with prospects’ and customers’ security teams to address their security-related questions
• Schedule, support and monitor our partners who perform security audits and penetration tests of our apps
• Make our existing operations automation codebase better, faster and more capable
• Whatever tasks you see as needing to be done to make us better (we’re really big on self-guidance here: if you see it needs to be fixed, we’ll support you to go fix it)

Qualifications

• Someone who has a strong background in development and/or scripting for infrastructure automation (preferably Ruby and/or Python) and sysadmin experience (on Windows and/or Linux)
• Must be able to demonstrate strong proficiency in development/scripting and systems administration
• Must have 4+ years previous work experience in either development, system administration or system security (or some mix of the three)
• Experience managing and automating infrastructure in AWS, Azure, or GCS a strong plus (we’re in AWS). 
• Experience with systems security, security-related RFP responses and customer-facing security review phone calls/meetings is a big plus
• Be bright, eager, willing to keep learning and figure out stuff on the fly
• Be willing and able to work on a team, learn from other team members, and share knowledge and help to create best practices with the team
• Be able to work remotely
• Professional experience with Ruby, Python, and/or .NET is a big plus
• Not a strict requirement, but a big plus if you’re based in the Austin area (or driving distance) as we occasionally have in-office days for face-to-face collaboration
